Hope and Joy

We question ourselves.  What have we done to
so affront nature?
We interrogate and worry God.
Are you there?  Are you there, really?
Does the covenant you made with us still hold?

Into this climate of fear and apprehension,
Christmas enters.
Streaming lights of joy, ringing bells of hope
And singing carols of forgiveness high up in the bright air
The world is encouraged to come away from rancor
Come the way of friendship.

---from Amazing Peace:  A Christmas Poem by Maya Angelou

To friends old and new:  Merry Christmas and best wishes for a remarkable new year!

"As soon as we express something, we devalue it strangely. We believe ourselves to have dived down into the depths of the abyss, and when we once again reach the surface, the drops of water on our pale fingertips no longer resemble the ocean from which they came...Nevertheless, the treasure shimmers in the darkness unchanged." ---Franz Kafka
